Back in 2008, Google first announced their first Android Device with T-Mobile named the G1. At the time, the Android OS was named Cupcake, since then it has been followed up with newer and updated versions named Donut and Eclair. Last week at Google’s I/O Conference, Google had just released their newest Android OS named Froyo. Although the version number has only changed from 2.1 to 2.2 there are a lot of changes with this new Froyo OS.  Below are some of the main changes and additions to the growing Android platform.

• Even Faster Browser Experience: New JavaScript engine that makes it the “fastest mobile browser”
• External Storage App: Many people have asked for it and now finally Froyo has now delivered.  Now users will be given an option to store their downloaded apps onto their phone memory or on their memory card.
• Tethering and Hotspot feature: Depending on how the carrier handles this feature, but this would be a great add on for Android users.  Having used the Palm Mobile Hotspot Feature on the Palm Pixi, I can say it is pretty awesome to have on a phone.
• Gmail and Calendar Updates: Adds more color and labeling to Gmail and more color for free times in Calendar
• Voice Recognition Settings: More languages to choose from
• Security Lock Changes: Users now have an extra option of entering in a PIN number instead of a Pattern Lock.
• Flash Player 10.1: Could play a few Flash websites, but the real Flash on the browser is coming this summer.

Android 2.2 will be released this summer.
